Cyster Talk: The Face of PCOS

I toiled with sharing this. Not because I'm not comfortable in my skin, but simply because there is someone out their judging me. Then I put my grown girl panties on, and said to hell with those people! This is Jae. I have PCOS, but PCOS doesn't have me! I'm gettin' balanced, boo!

This hormonal acne has me, though 😒 I haven't had acne like this in a decade. It's not as bad as it was back then, but I want to stop it dead in it's tracks before then. It's a good thing I know and understand the crazy roller coaster ride that is PCOS, or I would seriously be going stark raving mad. Acne in my 30's!? 😱 Well, here's to life after dirty thirty. 🍻 I bet ya thought acne was a thing of your past 20's. Nope.

So, what exactly cause these little face beasts? Our hormone monsters, of course! Fluctuations of estrogen and progesterone throughout the menstrual cycle. Elevated testosterone levels can make the skin oily and flare up with cystic acne mostly on the jawline, chin, and cheeks. Hello PCOS, anyone? Lastly, cortisol, or the stress hormone, can effect all of these. Infertility? No, not stressful at all.

Hirsutism, or the extra facial hair, is a result of extra male hormones called androgens. It can be inherited (your mama hairy, your grandma hairy, your sister hairy etc.) or come from certain medical conditions. Need I really say which? *Cough* PCOS *Cough*  👀👋 You can take 400mg of Saw Palmetto daily or drink 3-4 cups of Spearmint tea daily. I have zero time for both because I just rock it or get rid of it. More on facial hair here!

If you have really oily skin, it's recommended to wash your face twice daily. I have sensitive combo skin, so I'm only washing once a day right before bed. Right now I am using a Rose clay bar that was given to me as a sample from Honey's Handmade, but they don't sell it on their website. I've been moisturizing my skin with this African Shea Butter. Drugstore brands aren't working for me, so I'm nixing them out of my skincare regimen. I recently ordered some skin goodies off Amazon, and I'm so excited to try out and share my results with you. Check back later.

What is your current skincare routine?
X🍉, Jae

Vlog Magick v.6: My Growing Walgreen's Addiction

Hey, lovelies! It's been a while. May is still Mental Health Awareness month, so I'm exercising working on myself this month. It's especially important to me because I'm getting a year older in my dirty thirty's. It's both bittersweet and eye opening. I'm finding my depths this month, more so than I have ever been tried in all my 31 years. I'm finding a strength I didn't know I had in myself, and it's growing everyday. I still have many obstacles to overcome, but day by day, a girl is kicking the ass of all the negativity coming my way. I just keep reminding myself and telling myself that this season is almost over. I'm still winning in my own special way. Lovelies, what ways are you taking care of yourself this month?

Adulting: Mental Health Awareness Month

I didn't realize my birth month is #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth. Funny how the first day of the month I have a complete mental breakdown. I'm fine now. Actually the next day I was doing much better.

I knew that transitioning my blog from my budding writing career to a lifestyle blog would be an interesting transition. I am usually secretive and tend to keep my feelings to myself. I knew that somewhere there would be an enemy or foe scowling at my posts, or making jokes at my expense. Which is fine, it comes with the territory. I don't do this for you, I do this for the lone girl that's out there like me. For the person who thinks they are the only one who suffers. I'm open because I'm strong enough to be open. I'm open about my PCOS and the facial hair that comes with it, because I'm inspired by those women who were brave enough to share their experiences.

I'm experiencing what I'm coining 'Environmental Sadness'. My surroundings are mak…
