Book Review: The Last Great Reaper by Billi Bell

I do believe this is the first Indie Author book I have devoured in only two days. It was so well written, I honestly just couldn't put it down! I also couldn't wait to finish it because I knew I would love to review it.
{via Amazon Kindle}
Death guides souls to the afterlife, but she's so much more than just the Grim Reaper. She hates to be called that, BTW! And yes! Death is a she! She has a special name that she only let's close friends call her, but not to be confused with the Greek mythology by the same name.
She can only be seen by those who are on the brink of death, but one night while reaping she is seen by someone who is living. Curious and wanting to know more of why Father Dominic can see her, she takes him. Someone wants her to take him and keep him safe, and she needs to find out why.
She's written beautiful. A take no shit type of woman, just like you would imagine Death to be. The dialogue in this book is so well crafted, so well written. It's w…

Cyster Talk: The Face of PCOS

I toiled with sharing this. Not because I'm not comfortable in my skin, but simply because there is someone out their judging me. Then I put my grown girl panties on, and said to hell with those people! This is Jae. I have PCOS, but PCOS doesn't have me! I'm gettin' balanced, boo!

This hormonal acne has me, though 😒 I haven't had acne like this in a decade. It's not as bad as it was back then, but I want to stop it dead in it's tracks before then. It's a good thing I know and understand the crazy roller coaster ride that is PCOS, or I would seriously be going stark raving mad. Acne in my 30's!? 😱 Well, here's to life after dirty thirty. 🍻 I bet ya thought acne was a thing of your past 20's. Nope.

So, what exactly cause these little face beasts? Our hormone monsters, of course! Fluctuations of estrogen and progesterone throughout the menstrual cycle. Elevated testosterone levels can make the skin oily and flare up with cystic acne mostly o…

The weather is finally changing here in NYC, and I'm sick! But I am kicking this cold's ass with essential oils, cold medicine, vitamin D3 gummies, and cough drops. I loathe having a stuffy nose, it is the worse for me. Oh, and to top it all off: I'm also PMSing. Yay! If you're curious about the brand of essential oils I am currently using and which flavors I'm diffusing for my stuffy nose, shoot me a comment below!

Cyster Talk: Supplements for PCOS

I had to learn the hard way, ya'll. I was buying my vitamins and supplements from Vitamin Shoppe 🙈 I thought I was doing the right thing. While the Vitamin Shoppe is better than buying your vitamins and supplements from Walgreens or Wal-Mart, it's still not the best quality. With PCOS you want the very best quality hands down.

Remember that the first step to managing your PCOS is Nutrition. In order for your body to get the full effect of any supplement, you have to have the proper nutrients for the supplements to work with. I'm still struggling with nutrition, no shame 🙋 It's not a diet, it's really a lifestyle change. Supplements don't force the body, they aid the body in self healing + balancing.

I don't relax on the weekends and have a cup of tea, so two days are missing from the series. I should probably change this. More than likely when the weather gets cooler a nice cup of tea will keep me warm.

September 2018: PCOS Awareness Month

It's PCOS Awareness Month, and I've got so much going on with managing my PCOS, that I didn't even realize. Hence why I'm a whole 14 days late. But just like managing your PCOS symptoms, it's never too late to start!

I'm feeling good about the steps I am taking right now in order to reverse the effects my PCOS wreaks havoc on my body. I'm claiming my health back, and I will not let PCOS beat me. Over the next few weeks I want to share with you some of the steps I am taking to reclaiming my health and balancing my hormones naturally.

The natural journey takes time, strength, and a lot of effort. Consistency is key. There's a lot of research on my part, because right now I'm not working with an Herbalist or an Endocrinologist, because I've tried both. The Endo just wants to pump me full of synthetic hormones and drugs that force my body to ovulate and I'm not into that at all. I loved my Acupuncturist/Herbalist, but that was getting so expensi…

Chaste Tree: 30 Days In

You may call it Vitex, Vitex Berry, or Chaste Tree. So, what exactly is Chaste Tree? It's supposed to be the mother of all herbs for female hormonal balance. Which is why I chose to add it to help manage my PCOS. You can read how it made me feel after two weeks here, but this is how I feel after 1 month of usage.
Vitex itself doesn't contain any hormones, but it is nutritive to the hormonal feedback loop. Before I take any new supplement, I always scour the internet for testimonies on the usage and side effects. Everything in my PCOS journey and management is stemmed from here. According to Hethir (whom I love! 💓) here are some benefits from using Vitex:
Increases ProgesteroneMay help prevent miscarriage Relieves PMSHelps Amenorrhea (no period)Uterine CystsAcne
Vitex takes time in order to see any results. That being said: I have seen no results 30 days in. I've been spotting the entire time I've been taking it. EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. Which is annoying, but I'm rolling …

Tried + True: 5 Things I Tried in August

Steaz Organic Iced Tea Dealing with PCOS, I try to watch my sugar intake. I'm not always successful, because I admit it, I'm a sugar addict. I saw this on sale at the local shop for a buck and thought, what the heck. I didn't think it would be delicious, but it is! It's so refreshing with just the right amount of sugar and taste. This is my go to lunch drink. They also carry a zero calorie option, but I'm not brave!
Yoplait YQ Yogurt Do you know how hard it is to find a decent priced and decent ingredient yogurt? These were on sale, but I went back the next week, and they sky rocketed to almost $2/cup! That's pretty insane, so I didn't even get them again. I liked the flavors, Coconut was my favorite.
Hask Monoi Coconut Oil Conditioner I like to use a deep conditioning packet every week on wash day. This left my hair feeling like soft, silky amazigness! They are about $1.50-$2.00/packet, but they are so worth the money. Every time I hit up Wal-Mart I always …

Woo! An entire week down. Right now I am only drinking 1 cup per day, but I find myself wanting another cup. I'm currently on CD13, so possibly CD 16 I will kick it up to 2 cups per day.
